Lakefront residence: a balance between historic and contemporary

Overlooking Lake Caldonazzo in Trentino, the restoration of this residence stems from a desire to preserve the historicity of the existing masonry, while introducing a contemporary style that focuses on the healthiness and sustainability of the spaces through the use of local raw materials.

Tassullo products are made using rocks from the region: the binder used is natural hydraulic lime NHL 5, derived from the firing of Trentino red flakes; dolomite extracted from the TERA mining ecosystem is used as aggregate .

Part of the building retains its historic exposed masonry, bearing witness to the original identity of the place. The irregular and lively stonework tells the story of the building's construction and maintains its link with the landscape. The use of T 20 V as mortar for laying and pointing bricks allows for a particular degree of finish, is resistant to salts, and guarantees total compatibility with the substrate.

This structure is flanked by a renovated volume, characterized by continuous surfaces finished with CALCE FINE CALCE MEDIA natural finishes. The choice of a mineral solution has allowed for material consistency with the historic part, while defining a more essential and contemporary language. For the exteriors, in the photo where the wall flanks the staircase, the CALCE MEDIA 008 shade was chosen.

The large windows frame the view of the lake, bringing natural light deep into the rooms. The high ceilings, enhanced by exposed wooden beams, amplify the perception of space and create a balance between structure and lightness.

Breathability and compatibility with the substrates guided the design choice, in a project focused on respecting the existing structure. In a lakeside setting characterized by high humidity, the durability of the finishes and their water-repellent properties are fundamental requirements for ensuring long-term protection without altering the hygrometric behavior of the walls.
