Tassullo was founded in 1909 as a miners' cooperative, with the aim of creating employment opportunities in the area during a challenging period marked by migration, by mining the mineral deposits of Scaglia Rossa Trentina. The company is currently based in the area of its first mine, which dates back to 1909.
In the period immediately following World War II, Tassullo became a corporation, driven by growing demand for building materials and postwar reconstruction. The company expanded its operations by building new kilns to produce natural hydraulic lime and acquiring new quarries.
The 1970s also saw the acquisition of the Società Anauniense Miniera San Romedio, which originally mined black schist, a specific type of sedimentary rock rich in aquatic fossil deposits and a source of ichthyol, a substance with significant antiseptic properties. The rising popularity of penicillin and other pharmaceutical products had caused a decline in demand for ichthyol, and the mine was therefore converted to allow for the extraction of Scaglia Rossa Trentina, a highly sought-after marl characterized by a perfect balance of clay and limestone. The first industrial premixing plant for the production of plaster and mortar for the construction industry was also built in the 1970s.

In the early 2000s, the company invested in a survey and research project and confirmed the unique geological properties of the site where the ancient Rio Maggiore mine was located, beneath which lies a deposit of hundreds of hectares of pure dolomite. This marked the beginning of the deep extraction of this uncontaminated rock, which, when mixed as aggregate with natural hydraulic lime, defines the high-performance range of Tassullo products.
In line with the brand's values, the company has been involved in a unique space regeneration project since 2013: Dolomite extraction is carried out using a circular economy approach to create customized underground spaces suitable for technological and commercial activities. This has led to significant synergies with other companies that choose underground storage units as the ideal place to store their products, ensuring energy and land savings with tangible benefits for the environment.
The economic crisis hit the Tassullo Group hard and had a profound impact on the company's history.
The year 2018 will bring a breath of fresh air with innovative development projects in collaboration with universities and research centers, following the company’s acquisition by a solid group of investors, whose majority partner has more than 60 years of experience in the construction industry alone. Miniera San Romedio Srl is established, operating in the market under the Tassullo brand, now synonymous with innovation in the development of technical products and systems for construction.
The company is also reviving its project to regenerate mining areas, envisioning new scenarios and opportunities for companies that share a clear ethical vision, and transforming a production area into a new asset that serves a community increasingly attentive to contemporary issues of sustainability and responsible development. This is the context in which TERA, Tassullo’s mining ecosystem, was born—the embodiment of a conscious and ambitious journey: to become a catalyst for space, resources, and opportunities.
